Locating an ICE Detainee

The ICE agents can make arrests in different places, such as homes, businesses, and courthouses. An immigrant may be taken to an ICE detention facility if they are suspected of a visa violation, if they enter the country illegally, if the judgment hasn't been executed on their political asylum case, or if following orders given by a judge for the deportation, or while a removal proceeding is pending. Using the ICE Detainee Locator System, you can locate a detainee of 18 years or older taken to ICE custody. If the detainee is below the age of 18 years, you can contact the field office to obtain information concerning the detainee.

Below are the two online options to use to find a detainee:

Search by Biographical Information

If you don't know the detainee's A-Number, you can find the detainee by providing their name, country of birth, age, and date. The detainee's name must be an exact match for successful results. If you cannot find the detainee, try checking out for misspellings, adding or removing a hyphen, or reversing names.

Search by A-Number

You can search for a detainee by using the Alien Registration Number. The A-Number contains nine digits; if it has fewer numbers, you should add zeros at the beginning. Alongside the A-Number, you should include the detainee's country of birth during the search.
