DOC Inmate Search

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation provides a state offender locator as a public service to improve public safety and well-being while offering access to specific details on convicts. The CDCR offender search only provides information on department custody inmates. It means that the site automatically removes details on already-released individuals.

To perform the search, visit the state offender locator website, which offers two searchable options: search by name and search by CDCR number. After entering the details, the search displays the results, and you can check the list to obtain the inmate of interest. After a successful search, the results will show several details concerning an inmate. Some results include the offender's date of birth, age, physical description, arrests, bookings, release date, court dates, offense committed, and facility incarcerated.

However, you are advised not to rely on the third-party website entirely, as some information provided may be inaccurate and outdated. In addition, some inmate records may differ from the original government copies.

Jail Inmate Search

California cities and counties have jails for inmates awaiting trials and offenders serving short sentences. The jails are operated by the sheriff's office, while the city jails are under the management of the police departments.

To find out if a loved one is held in any jails in California, you can visit the sheriff’s department or the city police department. In addition, most counties offer online access to inmate records on their sites through California county jail inmate search. To locate an inmate online, you should determine the county or city website and navigate to the sheriff or police department search bar. The search bar will provide resources such as inmate locator and jail contact details.

ICE Locator

When a loved one is taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, it can be a shocking experience. It becomes even more shocking if you have no idea which facility the detainee is holding and how to get them out of custody. You can use the Online Detainee Locator System to find your loved one. The online detainee locator system tool allows you to find individuals 18 years of age and above. If the detainee is a juvenile, you may be required to contact the field office to enquire about the whereabouts of your loved one.

Below are the two main searchable methods you can use to locate a detainee;

Search by A-Number

If you have the detainee's A-Number, you can use it to find them. The A-Number contains nine digits and is issued to noncitizens when their A-File is made. If the A-Number has fewer numbers, add zeros at the beginning for better results. You can find the A-Number on work permits, green cards, passport visa stamps, and immigrant fee handouts.

Alongside the A-Number, you should remember to include the detainee’s country of birth.

Search by Biographical Information

When locating a detainee using the biographical details, you must provide their age, name, and date of birth. You should remember to put the name as an exact match for better results. In addition, you should check out for misspellings, adding/removing hyphens, or reversing names. During the search, remember to include the detainee's country of birth.

Sex Offender Search

A sex offender is anyone convicted of a sex offense. Most sex offenses under Title 9 of the Penal Code include incest, rape, oral copulation, sexual battery, sodomy, and aggravated sexual assault. The California sex offender registry offers regularly updated statewide details of known sex offenders and sexually violent predators. Some of the details contained on the registry include the offender's name, zip code, address, and physical description.

To find out about sex offenders living around you, visit the sheriff's office or the sex offender registry website.
