Nevada Inmate Search

Nevada
Updated on: December 12, 2022

Nevada inmate records are public records, meaning anyone can look at the inmate records and learn about an inmate's whereabouts. To search, you need to know the inmate's name and number. Where to search depends on the type of facility housing the inmate. Nevada houses inmates in state prisons or county jails. State prisons differ from county jails in size, management, and the number of inmates. Typically, state prisons house inmates with long sentences, while county jails hold inmates with short sentences of below one year. They also differ in size as state facilities can accommodate more inmates with different security levels. The Nevada Department of Corrections manages prisons in Nevada, whereas local law enforcement agencies administer county jails.

There are two ways one can use to locate an inmate. You can do an online search or contact the agency responsible via phone to request the information. When doing an online search, there are several websites one must consider. The section below will elaborate on how to do a successful online search.

How to Locate an Inmate Online?

Information on the internet is one search away. However, not all sites have reliable information. Some sites rarely update their information and could provide misleading data. There are some things you should know when searching for an inmate online. First, inmate data changes quickly as the wheels of the criminal justice system turn. This may lead to different variations in the data. Due to this, the user has no guarantee about the information's accuracy and completeness. Secondly, users are solely liable for any harm that may arise from data misuse.

Now let's look at some of the most reliable websites to acquire inmate records in Nevada.

The Nevada Department of Corrections

The Nevada Department of Corrections website is a good source of inmate data. The website contains information on inmates in state facilities. When you first load the site, you are greeted by an inmate search function on the homepage. The search function requires you to fill in the offender's name and DOC number. The search results indicate which facility in the state the inmate is being held. Besides the inmate's location, the site also shows the inmate's name, gender, ethnicity, age, photo, physical description, offense description, sentence status, and parole hearing details. Below the search results is a download button one can use to download the information.

The County Website

If an inmate is held in county jail, the sheriff's website or the county website will be the best source of information. Visit the websites and see if there is an inmate roster or a search tool. If the website has an inmate roster, navigate the list to locate the inmate you are searching for. Use the inmate's first and last name if they have a search option.

VINELINK

www.vinelink.com is a notification site that helps victims and family members stay informed of the inmate's whereabouts. VINE tracks convicted felons by mining data from various public databases, including county, state, and federal criminal databases and the sex offender database. To use the VINE services, one has to register on their website or mobile application. Registered members get text, email, or TTY notifications informing them of the inmate's incarceration status. Vine will notify them whenever an inmate is transferred, released, escapes, or dies.
