Updated on: December 12, 2022

Oregon inmate records comprise numerous forms, digital media, documents, evidence, DNA, and other items related to an individual charged with a crime, sentenced, convicted, sent to prison or jail, or under probation or parole supervision. These records often contain personal information and administrative details regarding an offender within the Oregon corrections system. Personal information usually comprises identifying details such as the offender's full name, age, gender, race, date of birth, nationality, ethnicity, mugshots, and a physical description including height, weight, eye color, hair color, scars, tattoos, or defining marks.

On the other hand, they can also contain official information, such as arresting agency, registration number, booking date and time, court records, location of the confinement facility, audio and video clips, criminal history, current charges, bail or bond amount, fingerprint, and projected release date.

According to state law, residents or interested parties can access or obtain inmate records upon request. Typically, these records are available at state and local record custodians. Generally, the Oregon Department of Corrections is in charge of all inmate records, prison, and incarcerated individuals at the state level. Alternatively, you can obtain these records from your local sheriff's office or police department.

Oregon State Prisoner Locator

Suppose you have a reason to believe that your loved one or family is serving time in a state-run correctional facility. In that case, the Oregon Department of Corrections official website is the first place you should look. As mentioned above, this agency maintains all inmate records pertaining to individuals incarcerated in state prisons.

To search for an inmate, scroll down the website's home page to "Search Tools and Community Resources" and click "Oregon Adult in Custody Search." This option automatically directs you to the DOC's search tool, "Oregon Offender Search." Remember, this tool requires you to provide the offender's:

  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name
  • SID Number

You can enter the designated inmate's complete or partial name, leaving the other fields empty. For partial names, place an asterisk for the name portions you are not aware of. The Department of Corrections typically makes available the offender information on the above search tool as a service to the public. Although this information is believed to be public, the Department makes no warranties regarding the data's accuracy.

County Jail Inmate Search

In Oregon, respective county sheriff's offices manage and operate their designated county jails. Therefore, visit your local sheriff's office if your loved one has been arrested or serving time in county jail. Most county jails allow you to search for an inmate using the jail inmate rosters posted on the official websites. Typically, these inmate rosters contain a list of all offenders held in jail. The list is arranged in alphabetical order. Upon clicking the inmate's name, you can expect to see an individual's full name, registration number, arresting agency, booking information, criminal charges, bail or bond amount, age, gender, race, and physical description.

Some jails allow residents to search for a loved one using an inmate search tool on jail websites. Here, you are required to provide the offender's name and registration number. If you still cannot locate an inmate, consider calling the jail facility or sheriff's office.

Federal Prisoner Search
